Default Psychological Warfare and Mesmers

I've been doing too much thinking lately, and IW really sets my imagination off. Must cap... o_o;
Anyway.
I've been trying to locate details about IW, and in doing so, I came across someone saying 'Everytime I see a Mesmer with a sword or axe, I immediately Rend'
Which got me thinking.
People switch weapons and chakrams for the effects on their energy and status. Why not switch them to deceive opponents?
IW PVP Build- Bring a staff. Rush 'em after equipping enchantments, then switch.
NonIW PVP Build- Bring a sword. Let them waste some energy rending the enchantments they think you have, and set them up for something like Mind Wrack.
Further...
Warrior- Waltz in without armor. Put it on once they figure 'easy target' (effect increased with FoW Armor)
Necro- Bring a water wand. Make them think 'omg noob', and then kill them with degen.

Any thoughts or flames on this matter?

Just a point that popped into my head. Do you notice top guilds actually using items that have -energy? Wonder why that is....

In response to OP: That would require a lot of micro management in my opinion with the hope that the other team actually even notices it. They probably won't. Usually, they would wait till they see the "-32 dmg from IW" or something and then take it off.

They use -energy items as cover from energy draining skills. After surge or whatever hits, they can switch to a +energy item, cast, switch back to -energy, giving them an untouchable cache of energy points that regens safely.

I suppose a melee weapon with +damage and -5 energy and either a -energy focus (can be found) or a decent shield

I fought against a mesmer like this in GVG a few nights ago. He forgot to bring a cover enchant, it appeared. I noticed his sword while target hopping, and one Drain Enchant later, he was rendered ineffective. Oops.

Well, the idea to make it work is do the same exact thing you'd ordinarily do with IW. So he got the tactic right, just kind of messed up with the general idea of IW. (Two cover enchants lol?)
Hm. And the -energy, +energy item setup... that's brilliant. So assuming Anet doesn't take notice, I'll be using that. <_<;

So long as ANet doesnt make PVP characters able to use ONLY PVP items, the +/- energy sets will still be used. Especially with E-Denial being so prevalent in builds nowadays.

Or you make them expect a Spinal Shivers build.

Threads like this only make me realize that I have yet to memorize every skill.
~looks up Spinal Shivers~

But still, same effect so long as you don't actually use it.

I'm gonna carry a wand next time I'm playing warrior! They'll just think, "oh its just your typical Spell casting Big guy without a hammer!" They won't see the big giant hammer smashing their face in till its to late!

I'll admit I'm one of those people that shatter enchant the minute I see the sword. But even if you carry the wand...wouldn't people notice a mesmer running towards them instead of away from them??

While I'm not casting I'm tabbing through looking at what you are using. If I see any mesmer cast illusionary weaponry you're going to get so much enchant hate thrown at you that you're going to cry.

If I don't see IW but see a mesmer dealign ~30 damage continuously I'm going to go looking for the mesmer with the sword.

IW mesmers are really too fragile to be anything other than a gimmick RA build - any build that relies on a 40 second recharge enchant is allways going to be gimmicky. There is way too much enchant hate in HA or GvG to get away with it. Luckily 3/4 groups in RA have no enchant killers and so you get away with it most of the time.

I think the best way to do it is carry a wand and then when they come to you, THEN you switch and start whacking on them with your IW and melee weapon. It makes more sense that they would be less likely to notice if they run at you, except that they will be staring at your warmup ><
